When I was a kid, on Valentine's Day we would celebrate in our classroom by bringing in treats, and sharing little cards with positive affirmations on them to our classmates. It was all about spreading love to everyone around you.


As you get older, you realize Valentine's Day has long been synonymous with romantic love. Marked every year on February 14th, it's a day when lovebirds express their affection with grand gestures, heartfelt gifts, and sweet nothings. Couples eagerly await the occasion to celebrate their love, making it a day of significant emotional and commercial impact. From red roses and chocolate boxes to candlelit dinners and love letters, Valentine's Day customs perpetuate the ideal of romance, underscoring the joy and beauty of finding and cherishing that special someone.


And don't get me wrong, there's a lot to be appreciated about all of that! Yet, amidst the bouquets and whispers of affection, there's a growing movement towards recognizing the day as an opportunity for self-love and personal reflection, inviting individuals to celebrate the most enduring love of all—the love for oneself. Self-love is the foundation upon which we build our self-esteem, confidence, and overall well-being. It's about acknowledging our worth, embracing our imperfections, and giving ourselves the compassion and respect we freely offer to others.

Self-Love Letters

Writing a Self-Love Letter emerges as a powerful act of self-care, especially around Valentine's Day. Narcissism, characterized by an excessive preoccupation with oneself, lacks the empathy and kindness that are inherent to self-love.
